Who are Dip & Flip? Dip & Flip are a casual dining concept specialising in “roast meat sandwiches dipped in gravy (Dip) and flat griddle smashed burgers (Flip). Their first restaurant was opened in Battersea Rise in 2013 – after co-founder Tim Lees completed his research into the market by trying “every burger that was going” - and has since been joined by three other sites in Wimbledon, Tooting and Brixton.

Opening up four restaurants in just four years, over the past few months Dip & Flip have been rebranding their original Battersea branch to make it more efficient, considering size, number of covers, and a new logo.

Dip & Flip are growing at an impressive pace, and are now churning out 900 litres of gravy a week!

Whilst Dip & Flip has become a regular favourite for many, it’s also bringing in new crowds each and every day. What do you think makes your concept such a success?

“My whole belief is that if you offer something that is great, which has good value, then people will come back. That’s what we try and do. We encourage our teams to serve people as if they have come to their house. We’ve got a lot of regulars in all of the shops, so we must be doing something right.”

Priding yourself on your team as much as you do your product, what have you got planned in terms of team development?

“We’re looking to launch a training scheme – we want to show our people that mistakes we’ve made and the lessons we’ve learned, and at the end of it they can go into a corporate role or start their own business. We’re putting that together and I’m really excited about it. We know recruiting is difficult in this industry, but I think we can offer something that little bit different to what the big companies do – freedom to use your skills and potential going forward.”

What is one key point you want to remember as you grow?

“We don’t want to over expand. Battersea is the blueprint going forward and the growth will be organic. It’s very much Gerry and I running an independent company, something that we can be proud of.”
